Mercury goes direct in Virgo

Don't count those chicken quite yet...

A shark swimming in the streets of Puerto Rico post hurricane!
Ahhhh, not a minute to rest with Mother Nature going at it. Now, a hurricane alert! Hurricane Irene, a category 2 (then downgraded to 1) is heading right for NYC this Saturday!!! The first total MTA shut down of the world's largest public transit system in history!!!!! And the first ever mandatory evacuation in coastal and low-lying areas of NYC!!!!!

Of course, being that it is New York Fucking City, seems the fear is far outweighed by the annoyance factor over inconvenience. For example, at 6:30 pm today, riding my bike across 14th St. there were no out of the ordinary lines at the groceries, but the line into a liquor store was around the corner.

Not being one to panic in a disaster myself, my only prep work today was buying seeds to repot, getting in some hurricane gardening while being trapped inside, stocking up with 5 cans of ice coffee and placing the Ambien near the bed. If the power was going out, I'd just go with it....

...So then the hurricane...What really happened? My day's blow by blow...woke up super late in the afternoon, gray skies, super humid, but no rain at that time....was away on a spontaneous beach trip days before, so was planning to be holed up on Saturday working anyway, so was hoping for excitement as my backdrop, envisioning me writing away with swirling debris blowing out my window...by 3pm, was already feeling stir crazy, had to get out...Lower Manhattan was like a ghost town or just like really early in the AM. All of the LES was shut down, as was the main drags of Chinatown--and Chinese people never shut for anything!!!! Hmmm.... However, over to the east, in the more hardcore section, it was business as usual...

...still out around 5pm, the rain started dropping...listening to all those nutty news reports, I finally got sucked in and bought some tape because I am high enough and wide open...but it was hours into the night before the windows got around to being taped, as my psychic senses were telling me it would be no big deal...but you know, better safe than sorry, and especially near a retrograde/direct transit...so, yeah, all the while, can't stop looking at the news, in between writing, even though nothing is new....so bored of all my snack foods by 9pm, wish there was more chocolate...Too dark to see anything, periodically opened the door to look outside and attempt to take pictures, or fight a good wind gust, but got too pelted with rain each time to get a good look at anything and no crazy gusts, or even any pounding winds or howling ones...still, it was the perfect setting for coziness and getting my work done, which kept me busy way into the night....At midnight, the storm was hitting its peak, but only the calls and texts were streaming in heavier from friends close and far.... Like 9/11, I think people outside of NYC were way more worried about it than people here....

...by 3am the heavy rain was still on and I was done with my phone, ready to veg out to the sound of the rain beating against the window and the 70's horror flick Brotherhood of Satan...To say the least, one anti-climatic storm, as it just felt like a glorified rainy night, but whatever, it was a perfect storm for me--even despite this totally boring and uneventful post...but I liked the pic I posted, so thought I'd add my two cents on Irene...

Sunday, 4pm, Update: Waaaah, my friend told me he saw the pic of the shark prior to the hurricane, and said it's a hoax. Waaah, see, I knew I couldn't count my chickens before they hatched...I am psychic...but not psychic enough to know a fake when I see it :(
